This is a fairly popular painting and has had several titles. It is not meant to be a pleasant work. In the sand there is a set of footprints going into the sea none coming out.
It is Marloes Bay in Pembroke a lovely place where I once had with my family a beautiful day. I think the view may give you an idea what the day was like.
When I was little, my parents always flirted over meals and Dad would give marks out of ten for the cooking My late mother Maddy was an exceptional cook when it came to pastries and cakes and tea was always a gorgeous meal. Meat and vegetables it has to be said was not her forte and even today my sisters, brother and I still remember her lamb stew. If you could eat that you could eat anything. On a good day it looked like road kill.
Anyway back to Dad and marking meals. On exceptional days Christmas, family gatherings, weddings, etc. Maddy would excel and an occasional 10 was awarded. I have always had a problem with this. Once that acclamation is achieved everything else pales into insignificance. All that can be left is disappointment.
And back to the painting what do you do if that was your 10 out of a 10 day?
