8 Minutes 20 Seconds

Sunrise painting

What appears to be a relatively straightforward watercolour landscape in portrait mode took me years to complete. Don’t know why

The title is the time it takes for sunlight to reach the earth. It follows then that if the sun were to cease to exist you would only find out about 8 minutes and 20 Seconds later. This has always bothered me. As far as I can work it out it means you are always living on borrowed time and it must be a determinist universe so there is no free will.

It gets even worse if you listen to QI. That show reckons that the light you see took additional tens of thousands of years before leaving.
